Zane from Zimbabwe

Just back from a visit to my parents in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and was saddened to see how little people had, but humbled to see how little, these dear people needed to be happy.

Zane and Bulawayo Help Net were actually making a huge difference in the lives of many.

It is unbelievable how the country, which was once the breadbasket of Africa, is now a dusty wasteland with roads and buildings, schools and parks now overgrown and broken. The local currency (bond note) is recognized only in Zimbabwe and is showing Aus$1 = Z$262.19 as of May 2026. Life expectancy dropped to 40 years at its lowest point, a far cry from the bustling city that it once was.

Many people travelled to Rhodesia in the 50’s and 60’s and brought with them skills that would greatly benefit the country. Schools, hospitals and infrastructure were put in place, and parks, golf courses, and leisure pursuits were prioritized to make it attractive to live and work.

Gone are those days, and for the ones who didn’t leave, hyperinflation and severe climate-induced agricultural failures and farm acquisitions, life has become almost unbearable.

As of 2025 over 60% of the population lives on less than $3.65 a day

However, I found that ZANE and Bulawayo Help Net really do have the people at heart and often provide those who are left with absolutely nothing with hope. They take time to support, entertain, and have even started a charity shop in Bulawayo, with the proceeds going to those most needy. A truly caring community.

If you would like to join me in supporting these precious people please click on the link below. There is one for Uk and one for other countries.
